WHAT IS METAMATERIALS

Metamaterials are fascinating new manmade materials that can beam of light in surprising ways from their structures. The electromagnetic properties of metamaterials at any frequency can be engineered to take on particular values, especially for those not available in nature, such as, negative refractive index, left-hand behavior, extraordinary transmission, negative Doppler effect, etc.

Metamaterials Metamaterials

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT

According to their unique properties, the application of metamaterials is can be introduced into the small gap of electromagnetics frequency called “Tera Hertz” which is still having the challenging of the shortage of source, modulation and also detectors.

HOW DO I KNOW MORE ABOUT IT?

These are the lists of books and suggested research that would be suitable to one who want to start understand the metamaterials more.

  • i. Withayachumnankul, W. and D. J. I. P. J. Abbott (2009). “Metamaterials in the terahertz regime.” 1(2): 99-118.
  • ii. Tao, H., et al. (2008). “A metamaterial absorber for the terahertz regime: design, fabrication and characterization.” Opt Express 16(10): 7181-7188.
  • iii. Hecht, E. (2017). Optics, Addison-Wesley.
  • iv. Wenshan Cai, Vladimir Shalaev, Optical Metamaterials: Fundamentals and Applications.

However, the metamaterials also can be studied by using COMSOL multi-physics.
